Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF)

What does RUTF stand for?

RUTF stands for ready-to-use therapeutic food. RUTF are usually made with peanut, milk powder, oil, sugar and vitamin/mineral premix

RUTF nutrition is aimed at providing those experiencing severe acute malnutrition with the nutrition they need. RUTFs are easier to administer than therapeutic milk such as F75 and F100 because RUTFs do not need cooking or heating. They are prepackaged and ready to be consumed immediately without preparation.

What nutrients are in RUTF?

RUTF provides similar nutrition to that of therapeutic milk. RUTFs can be made with a custom composition of micronutrients but generally contain fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), water-soluble vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12, C, folic acid, niacin, biotin), essential minerals (sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine), and fatty acids.

Why should you use a reliable RUTF supplier?

Choosing a reliable RUTF manufacturer is essential to succeeding in a malnutrition care project. Your supplier should be able to provide proof of certification with GMP, ISO, and other certifications.
